The album is now launched!
Bríd launched the album at a private launch party in The Greyhound Bar, Kilkee. The Red Carpet was rolled out and it was a wonderfully intimate setting for such an event. Accompaniment on the night was provided by Derek O’Sullivan on guitar and James Hanley on keyboards for the performance of some material from the album.
You could hear a pin drop when she started proceedings off with her haunting version of ‘Táimse im' Chodladh’. This was followed by ‘Casadh an tSúgáin’ and the local version of ‘Cliffs of Dooneen’ [The Hill of Moveen], which was very well received by all who know the origins of the song title. There was not a dry eye in the house for her stirring vocal on ‘Skibbereen’. Some fun ensued when five of ‘The Grattan Street Girls’ who sang in the chorus of ‘Ding Dong Dederó’ on the album sang their hearts out to the joy of the invited guests. Then a very special treat indeed as Bríd was joined on stage by the legendary Paul Brady for Bríd Óg Ní Mháille.
‘I could not believe that Paul came down to the launch and you could have knocked me down with a feather when he came up to sing with me!!!’, says Bríd.
The rendition of the song was beautiful and there were smiles galore on stage from Paul and Bríd. Once everyone settled down again after witnessing such a special one-off performance, Bríd signed off with ‘The Parting Glass’ to rapturous applause.
